With a stiff, consistent wind blowing off Newark Bay, the Union Men faced off against the Bayonne Bombers in Bayonne on Saturday, October 17. The Union men had a tough time dealing with both the wind and the Bombers yet came away with a hard-fought 41-26 victory that was much closer than the scoreboard indicated.

The Mudturtles took an early 10-0 advantage due to their relentlessly quick attack. Undaunted, the Bombers went toe to toe with Union before the first half ended with Union holding a slim 22-19 lead.

In the second half, Bayonne’s solid play and Union’s sloppy ball handling amounted to 26-22 Bayonne lead with about 10 minutes remaining. Undaunted, Union scored three trys in the final minutes to secure the win. Matt Scarfuto, Dan Morariu and Adrien Becker each scored two trys for the Mudturtles, while Charlie Blessing led the defensive effort with five tackles for losses.
